Description

Very nice set of 6 vintage 70's champagne flutes.
These are glass flutes from the VMC brand, Arlequin model, beautiful flared cut with engraved diamond-shaped decoration enhanced with color.
Here a nice mix of colors: 2 blue flutes, 2 old pink flutes, 2 yellow flutes.
Beautiful patina of time on the color which has faded over the years and uses which brings a lot of charm because it is more pastel!

For the little story:
The VMC glassworks for Verreries Mécaniques Champenoises are also called Verre Mouvement Création and VMC tout court.
The company was created in 1911 by Arthur Papon, it manufactured what are called goblets which are in fact drinking glasses, mustard, whiskey .... The famous Le Parfait jars were exclusively made here , tableware, baby jars and jam jars including the famous Materne jars which reproduced the shape of the fruit they contained.
The factory prospered until 1970, making stemmed glasses, flutes and champagne coupes...but orders fell and production declined.
VMC will mark the life of Reims, and of the whole of France too, in a dramatic way this time through the tragic death of Pierre Maître, a worker killed by a commando who came to dissipate the picket line on the night of June 4 to 5, 1977. Two other strikers were injured.
There was an entrepreneurial spirit, a "family" spirit within VMC which disappeared during the merger with Rive de Giers and Givors in 1992 to give way to a spirit of competition and profit.
The company definitely closed in 2009, no longer profitable enough for the buyers.
In 2020 the demolition of the site is decided because of its state of disrepair.

These flutes are therefore among the last representatives of the work of the VMC factory.

Dimensions: height 5.91", diameter of the top 6.5 cm or 2.76", diameter of the foot 6 cm or 2.36", depth 9 cm or 3.54", weight 750g.
Beautiful on the table for the aperitif this summer!
For a "Poptimist" summer!
