19th century vase: Bathing cherubs. Amphora vase in dark brown patina spelter. It rests on a round base in red marble, and on a gilded brass plate. This vase has 2 double handles representing reeds with their curved leaves. The body of the vase is sculpted with 8 naked children, indulging in the pleasures of bathing. On one side: One climbs to the diving board, while another rushes to jump. A third is jumping, 2 others are already in the water. On the other side: the bathing is over and we are drying ourselves. At the very bottom, the fish are taking part in this recreation while at the top, the ducks are flying away... This vase is signed RM or Em, see photo. Height: 25.5 cm. Diameter: 9 cm and 14 cm between the handles. The details are perfect and really superb, all on the many photos. Superb vase circa 1900.
