Breakfast Cup / Saucer
Villeroy and Boch earthenware
Celadon green
Mettlach France-Saar Economic Union
Capacity: 250ml
Cup diameter: 110mm
Cup height: 68mm
Saucer diameter: 165mm
total: 375grs
This factory was born in 1836 from the union of two former competitors, Nicolas Villeroy and Jean-François Boch, who merged their workshops, created in 1789 and 1748 respectively.
Its expansion is rapid thanks to its technical innovations, and in particular the development of extra white and resistant earthenware, very closely resembling porcelain but less expensive.
The activity diversified: tiles, stoves, pipe objects from 1870, and even terracotta stones.
Activity and acquisitions do not weaken and despite the difficult 1980s and 1990s, V&B remains a major player in Tableware today.
Some pieces are stamped “Made in France-Saar Economic Union”, an economic and political union which existed from 1947 to 1956, the Land of Saar then choosing to join Germany.
