The Franco-Russian alliance was first a military cooperation agreement signed between France and the Russian Empire which was in force from 1892 to 1917. This agreement stipulated that the two countries had to support each other if they were attacked by one of the countries of the Triple Alliance (also called Triplice): the German Empire, Austria-Hungary and the Kingdom of Italy.
