Engraving by Giovanni Volpato (1733-1803) after Raphael's work: The Deposition. The painting represents the central part of the composition of the altar of the Baglioni (Pala Baglione), created by Raphael by order of a noble lady, Atalanta Baglioni, representative of an ancient feudal family, in memory of her murdered son Griffonetto. "The Deposition" reflects the formation of Raphael's individual style and the artist's creative maturity. The painting was in the Church of St. Francis until 1608, when it was seized by representatives of Cardinal Scipio Borghese, who was the nephew of Pope Paul V. The engraving may have been marred. I have not found any occurrences listing this engraving and its dimensions. The frame measures 56.5 x 63.5. Sight engraving: 41.5 x 47.5
