It was in 1828, the year when the popular repercussions of the songbook's trial and the abundant iconography to which Béranger's second stay in prison gave rise that the publishers decided to illustrate his Songs. Reproducing drawings by Monnier or vignettes dated 1828, the printing of these plates cannot, even if some have a hollow M AU mark, be prior to 1828.
